Welcome to HotelGuide.Networks' directory of hotels and hotel reviews for Dodge City, Kansas!
Developing under flags of Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, and the Stars & Stripes, Dodge City packs a colorful history from Spanish roots and Louisiana Purchase days to modern tourism under a slogan of “Get the Heck into Dodge.” Over time, Dodge has claimed titles from Buffalo Capital of the World and Queen of the Cowtowns to Wickedest Little City in America and Beautiful Bibuluous Babylon of the Frontier. With 1872’s arrival of the Santa Fe Railroad, Dodge City -- postal authorities nixed "Buffalo City" because Kansas already had one -- was founded just five miles west of Fort Dodge to supply buffalo hunters and soldiers with stores, hotels, restaurants and entertainment. In wild and wooly days, Dodge was home to lawmen and gunslingers like Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, and the Masterson brothers: Bat, Ed and Jim. Dodge City originally had two Front Streets, one on each side of the railroad tracks, and city ordinance decreed guns could not be worn or carried north of the tracks, while the “anything goes” south side was wide open. Some saloons advertised anchovies and Russian caviar on their cold lunch menus. Dodge City today is equally hospitable, with roadways like Wyatt Earp Boulevard reflecting heritage along with restaurants from Brushfire Grill II and Casey’s Cowtown Club to The Bad Habit. Attractions range from Boot Hill to auto racing at Dodge City Raceway Park. Other magnets include the Gunfighter’s Wax museum, Carnegie Art Center, and Dodge City Zoo, and the Boot Hill Museum. The Trail of Fame provides a walking tour of the Old Dodge City historic district with sidewalk medallions and statuary. Dodge City's attractions range from Boot Hill to the fast-paced world of auto racing at Dodge City Raceway Park. Lodging options include inns, motels and hotels near the convention center.
